Just a quick post today. For some time I've been using the Firefox Long URL Mobile Expander. It's a great add-on that expands the URLs from about two hundred URL shortening services such as tinyurl.com and bit.ly. One problem it has though is that when you open certain files locally on your computer, it throws an error:
error: current_domain is null
This is a pretty annoying error, and some kind person tracked it down and posted the fix in the comments. They did not, however, post an updated version of the add-on. So, attached to this message is the fixed version.
A second extension that I've been using for a long time is the Resizeable Textarea add-on. It allows you to drag the edge of text areas and form fields so that you can make them as big (or small) as you like. Unfortunately, the author hasn't updated the add-on since 2006, so it doesn't work on recent versions of Firefox. This is easy to fix, so I updated this one as well, and attached it to this post.
Enjoy.
EDIT: Per the creator's comments below, you can find an updated and fixed version of the Long URL Expander in experimental status here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/8636#version-2.
EDIT 2, 10-2-2009: Turns out that the fixed version of Resizeable Textarea on the mozilla site doesn't actually work. An updated version is attached though.

Michael,
Thanks for sharing a fix that is easy for others to apply. I corrected this error a while ago, but I'm still waiting for the add-on to be reviewed. However it is still possible to install the fixed version (2.0.1) which is currently marked experimental: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/8636#version-2.0.1
It would be awesome if you could update your review to acknowledge this. I'm afraid most people aren't aware of the new version I've uploaded.
Cheers,
Sean
Yeah, I think you mentioned this to my professor too, who just emailed me about it as well. I'll put an edit up above. Thanks for the great extension. Too bad the mozilla review process takes so long.
resizeable textarea - version bumped to 3.5.*
Thank goodness. I'll remove the attached XPI for your add-on as well. Thanks for bumping the version.
I'm sorry, but where can i find the bumped Version? @ FF Addons Page the install.rdf is still with maxVersion 2.0.0.*. I've tried to change it manually. Still not working...
Could you be so nice to give me a Link or something to the bumped Version?
I believe it's here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3818
That link says it supports up through FF 3.5. If not, let me know, and I'll repost a fixed version again.
It's so frustrating, am i to stupid to install it correctly? I don't know... nevertheless it still does not work for me.... i've downloaded the xpi from the given link and checked the MaxVersion Field. It's still 2.0.0.*.... under add-ons i see the Extension is installed.. but it does not work on any textarea .... thanks for anny hint you can give me.
Right you are. How strange that the add-on and the description of it are in conflict.
I've reposted an updated add-on above. It SHOULD work. If not, let me know.
maxVersion in install.rdf will be overidden by amo via http-header. if you download the xpi, it lacks of the header and it wont install. maxVersion has nothing to do with a installed but not working extension.
try it with a fresh installed firefox and if it works, add your extensions one by one and report here, on witch ext. it fails.
does it throw any errors in the errorconsole?
Yes, I found the error!
It says: "No chrome package registered for chrome://resizeta/content/resizeta.png"
That was using FF3.6b3 (plus a range of extensions), by the way.
